SHOW SYNOPSIS

Legally Blonde The Musical follows the transformation of Elle Woods as she tackles stereotypes and scandal in pursuit of her dreams. Action-packed and exploding with memorable songs and dynamic dances – this musical is so much fun, it should be illegal!

Elle Woods appears to have it all. Her life is turned upside down when her boyfriend Warner dumps her so he can attend Harvard Law. Determined to get him back, Elle ingeniously charms her way into the prestigious law school. While there, she struggles with peers, professors and her ex. With the support of some new friends, though, Elle quickly realizes her potential and sets out to prove herself to the world.

CHARACTER DESCRIPTIONS

Here at the Alice Springs Theatre Group we do not cast to type, age, gender, or race, but rather to the essence of the character.

Elle Woods (Gb2-G5 Soprano Belt)
Los Angeles socialite, and fashionista extraordinaire. Elle Woods may appear like a typical blonde California sorority girl, but don’t count her out. She is hardworking, optimistic and tenacious. This UCLA Homecoming Queen, Delta Nu President, and quintessential Valley Girl follows her ex-boyfriend to Harvard Law School and realizes that she has more than just a pretty face and a bubbly personality to offer the world! She is outgoing, energetic, lovable, vulnerable, and determined.

Emmett Forrest (B2-A4 Tenor)
A smart and sensitive law student who takes Elle under his wing and believes in her when it seems that no one else does. He is friendly, personable and charming, albeit slightly dorky. He always appears a little underdressed, a scruffy ex-Harvard student who is now a lawyer and is not taken seriously by his colleagues. It is implied this is due to his lack of fashion sense, but his looks are his last concern.  He is Professor Callahan’s teaching assistant, and has had to work hard his entire life to get into and then graduate from Harvard Law School. Nothing is going to come between him and becoming a partner in Callahan’s law firm, except maybe his surprising love for Elle.

Paulette (A3-A5 Soprano Belt)
Owner of Hair Affair, a local salon. Paulette provides sound advice and companionship to Elle. She and Elle help each other achieve their dreams! Brash, caring, and optimistic, she longs for a meaningful romance of her own and loves anything to do with Ireland. While she is a bold character, her self-esteem needs a little boost now and then.

Professor Callahan (A2-F#4 Baritone)
Callahan is a charismatic yet conniving Criminal Law professor at Harvard, who is regarded with both fear and respect. A pompous, sleazy and manipulative character who is highly successful, but completely immoral.

Warner Huntington III (Eb3-Ab4 Tenor)
Warner is Elle’s ex-boyfriend. A good-looking but shallow and pompous guy who breaks Elle’s heart and heads off to Harvard Law, where he is caught between his former life with Elle and his newfound serious East Coast life with Vivienne. Warner is attractive, confident, and charming but very self-absorbed. He will do whatever it takes to achieve his dream of becoming a senator by the time he’s 30, including breaking Elle’s heart.

Vivienne Kensington (A3-F5 Soprano Belt)
Vivienne Kensington is Warner’s new girlfriend and fiancé, and is the very opposite of Elle, if judging only by demeanor. Overachieving, wealthy, and uptight, she comes from a very conservative East Coast background and is everything that Warner needs to make a serious move to become a lawyer. A smart, savvy, and intellectually driven law student who feels very threatened by Elle’s presence at Harvard.  She initially dismisses Elle, but grows to be her friend.

Brooke Wyndam (A3-G5 Alto or Soprano)
An exercise video mogul and famous fitness guru who is also a former Delta Nu sorority sister. She is energetic and charismatic, and exudes confidence and poise. She is accused of murdering her wealthy husband and refuses to testify in her own defense.

Serena, Pilar, and Margot (G#3-F5 Soprano Belt)
Margot, Serena and Pilar are Elle’s trio of best friends and Delta Nu sisters. Stereotypical California sorority girls. They admire Elle deeply and will do anything for her. They form part of the Greek Chorus that serves as Elle’s entourage, inspiring her whilst she is at Harvard. Some of the wisdom they impart is not exactly astute.

Serena – Opinionated UCLA cheerleader sorority sister.

Pilar – Sassy and sensible sorority sister.

Margot – Seemingly dim-witted, boy-crazy sorority sister

Kate (Bb3 – Eb5 Alto)
Kate is a featured Delta Nu sister – the academic of the bunch, she helps Elle prepare for the LSAT.

Law Students
Aaron Schultz, Sundeep Agrawal Padamadan and Enid Hoopes are three featured law students with academic credits that would intimidate anyone.

Aaron Schultz (Tenor) – A smug and arrogant Harvard law student and winner of the Fulbright and Rhodes. Self-proclaimed genius.

Sundeep Padamadan (Tenor) – A royal foreign Harvard law student. Former leader of his country who asks to be called “your majesty”.

Enid Hoopes (G3-G5 Soprano Belt) Enid is a Harvard Law student who is strong, opinionated, and a proud feminist. She is an ex-peace corps volunteer, and            an outspoken personality, active in Greenpeace and organizing protests

Kyle
Kyle is the physically fit, smooth-talking UPS deliveryman who Paulette has her eyes on each time his job brings him to the salon.

Chutney Wyndham
Chutney Wyndham has a really bad perm and an even worse attitude. She is Brooke’s unhappy stepdaughter who dislikes that her father married a woman younger than her. She is actually guilty for killing her father and framing Brooke.

Admission Officers
Winthrop, Lowell and Pforzheimer are three admissions officers of Harvard Law School who eventually admit Elle into the program after some critical evaluation.

Winthrop – Hard-headed Chief Admissions Officer at Harvard Law.
Lowell – Tweedy Harvard Law admissions officer.
Pforzheimer – Tweedy Harvard Law admissions officer.

Grandmaster Chad
Featured member of the UCLA Frat Boys. “Jamaican Me Crazy” Reggae Rapper/Hip Hop Dancer.

Dewey
Paulette’s rude, mean, dog-stealing, trailer-trash ex-boyfriend.

Nikos Argitakos
Brooke Wyndham’s pool boy, who claims to have been her lover.

Carlos (Tenor)
Nikos’ “best friend” (who is actually secretly his boyfriend). When Nikos alleges that he had an affair with Brooke Wyndham, Carlos outs him.

Whitney
Vivienne’s law school friend and partner in mischief when it comes to bringing down Elle.

Other Delta Nu Sisters/Greek Chorus: Includes Gaelen, Leilani, Becky.
